“…You don’t deserve a life. You’re an animal. Get away from us and never come back. Only the
beasts of the field can accommodate you, not me and not my household.”You are wondering what that is all about, don’t blame me yet.
Listen to my story first. I lived with a single mother who couldn’t fend for me as a child. All she taught me was to trust God for everything. It appeared like she didn’t know God for herself. All that was just an attempt to make me a moral person. How can I keep trusting a God who doesn’t act like He cares? I needed to find my way into a comfortable life. I did what every lady would do when she doesn’t want to end up wretched. I needed to stay away from home to make ends meet, so I chose to stay with my uncle because that was the only way I could get the freedom to live the life I wanted to live. The statement you saw up there was a little bit of what my uncle said to me when he got to know about what I had gotten myself into.
My life is a mess, right?
Life smiled at me when I found light. A group of university students visited our village for
something they called Village Outreach. I cared less about what they came for until I met a
charming sister. Sis Vivian, as she called herself, was everything different from every lady in my village. What I know about these ‘church people’ is that they always attack every other person who doesn’t believe in what they believe. They call themselves saints, and other people appear like the children of the devil to them.
On meeting me, Vivian walked me to my house. All we talked about was womanhood and how
ladies must strive to be better mothers. I couldn’t get over everything she spoke to me about. Long
story short, she caught my heart and led me to Christ.
What happened afterwards?
Colossians 1:21-You also were once alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked deeds,
but now he has reconciled you
2 Corinthians 5:17-Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, that person is a new creation. Old things
have passed away. See, all things have become new!
Yes! That’s just who I am now. A new person.
There are many ways to define God’s love. I personally believe it is best demonstrated by two
words: commitment and acceptance.
Commitment means that love does not change daily, depending on whether you are up or down. Love has pure motives and is unconditional in its nature. If we want to be effective in reaching the lost, we must demonstrate the quality of Christ’s
love as expressed in unconditional acceptance. After all, Jesus did that for you and me before we
knew any better.
Acceptance is not approval. Sister Vivian must have perceived the kind of person I was based on
my appearance, but she still chose to approach me with the gospel message. Her acceptance did
not mean she approved of my lifestyle. It was just a chance to show that I can be a better person.
Till today, Sis Vivian still checks on me frequently, and has been a pivotal contribution to my
spiritual growth. This is how I define commitment.
In turn, I have been reaching out to young girls in my village to ensure that they partake of the
love I have received in Christ. This is the gospel, and I am a proud ambassador.
Moral Lesson
The gospel is not just about the bible. It’s a message, and the methods of communicating this
singular message are diverse and dependent on the situation. Jesus didn’t always approach
everyone the same way. In all, the entirety of the
message is LOVE.
As we prepare for Village Outreach, trust God to enlarge your heart to accommodate the kind of
Love Jesus has for you. Also, you must understand the peculiarities of every person you witness to. Understand the gospel and don’t just preach the bible.
