A strong cord
That holds down its victims tight
Not letting a breath of escape.
A cord with thorns
Inflicting on its victims
Remarkable marks of sulky pain.
Still, never let go
Till his tears become drops of blood.
Addiction, like a frail man
Captured by a strong man
Enclosed and enveloped
As he struggles to gain his freedom
But his great effort seems too weak.
His voice for freedom; suppressed
And his tears of liberty; erased.
Can this man be ever free?
Can only determination win this battle?
Not until I stumbled on a written friend
Who told me of a great man
Whose strong determination couldn’t change a thing.
This man is Apostle Paul
Who by himself said ” I do not understand what I do
For what I want to do, I do not; but what I hate, I do.”
Paul, a great man of faith and wisdom
His determination couldn’t save him.
If determination fails to solve addiction,
What then can?
My written friend again said,
“Nothing is impossible with God”
“Cast your burdens upon Him”
But those words seem too vague to be true.
He explained further,
“The solution to the problem of addiction is possible with God.
As long as the burdens are cast upon Him.
Addiction is a burden, cast it on Him and it’s solved”.
On hearing this,
I let out a wide smile.
I have peace of mind now.
I’ve got an answer to my question.
Only Jesus can save those who had sunk
And some currently sinking in the clay of addiction.
