“You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world…”
Let me show you what happened in the day of your salvation
In the day of death
In the time when you walked according to the course of this world
According to the ruler of the power of the air
The spirit of disobedience, the father of sin
You were clothed in cloaks of sin
Burdened with weight and the demands of the law
You lived without a shepherd
And walked without a lead
In you was laid the cravings and desires of the flesh
Each day, you died to the one who brought you to life
Each day, you journeyed out of his Presence
Journeyed into Tarshish, instead of Nineveh
Now, in the day of your salvation
God raised you up from the shoals of death
And out of the riches of His grace and mercy
The gift of salvation was offered to you
And in his hands, he bare you and raised you
And translated you into the city of Light
As Paul wrote, I appeal to you,
Walk worthy of the calling which you received He affirms
I am the light of the world
Whoever follows after me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life
The Christ is He who existed from the beginning
In Him was life and this Life was the light of men
And the light shines in darkness and darkness comprehends it not.
In the life of Christ lies light for your world
The darkness that hovers ceases to reign at the entrance of this light
And all who would be joined to you as you are joined to the father of lights would not walk in darkness
How do you shine as light?
Reproving sin at it’s slightest appearance
Bringing truth to every falsehood
Bringing into the obedience of Christ every thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God
The ruthless act of malpractice
That corrupting influence of ungodly relationships
The ungodly pursuit of living life at its best
The depraved act of indecency
The destructive habit of disobedience
Subtle life of men pleasers over God
Remember our opening scripture,
Matthew 5:14-16 (MSG): Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.
As a son and a daughter of light,
The Father of Light says to you, “Have I not sent thee?”
And you say to yourself
“As the sent one, what do I do with my light?”
God says
“Start from where you are
Go forth as the salt of the earth
Preserving the righteousness of God in a perverse generation
Seasoning the earth with the gifts of God inside of you
Bringing healing to the world by the purity of your heart and actions.
Shine forth!
