Now that you are on holiday…

A holiday is a time when someone does not go to school or work but is free to do anything they want such as travel or relax. (Cambridge Dictionary). Now that the school is on break, you have ample time to yourself. You might be part of those who are presently doing Industrial Training (IT), Teaching Practice (TP), or Practical Year Training Programme (PYTP). These three programmes are practically based. Therefore, see it more as working during the holiday rather than normal school work.

As earlier said, you have ample time to yourself now. There are no compulsory 7 am-7 pm classes, assignments, group works, or projects. Even if there is group work or a project, it is for one or two courses. What then are the things to be done that after this holiday, you will come out a value-added person?

  • Reflect on the last session. Don’t just be a person that comes in and out of a session without proper preparation. This is the time to sit down and ponder on how the semesters went by. Ask yourself; “What were the things I really should have done?”, “In what aspect have I done well?”, “What should I do to become better?”.
  • Don’t stop at that. Write the answers down. Pen down your goal(s) for the next session in view of the answers you’ve written down. Write a strategic plan for achieving the goal(s). Most importantly, be determined and disciplined enough to follow and visit it often. Pray about the next session. Prov.3.21-22 (NLT) My child, don’t lose sight of good planning and insight. Hang on to them, for they fill you with life and bring you honour and respect.
  • Eccl.9:7 (NLT): So go ahead. Eat your food and drink your wine with a happy heart, for God approves of this! Ensure you eat good and healthy food. Read that again; “good and healthy food”, not “expensive food”. Don’t hide under “I can’t afford expensive food”. The junks you buy are more expensive than fruits and vegetables. Make sure you eat all the food you’ve imagined while having classes, assignments, and exams back to back. Remember, the Lord shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory. Eat well, sleep well, rest well. In all, health is wealth, hence the need to improve your health.
  • Within the space of these few weeks of holiday, whatever your hands find doing, do it with all your might. For all those activities you’ve planned on doing during this break, please start doing them already. Learn that new skill. Improve your skills. Offer that online course. Read books on spirituality, finances, business, and so on. Be responsible at home. Be diligent in your IT, TP, or PYTP. Don’t forget your academic books too because before you know it, another session is here.
  • Of course, you know this is your priority. Don’t neglect the place of fellowshipping with God. Keep the fire burning even as go through the holiday. This is the time when your “I love you Lord” will be tested. Don’t let the euphoria of home or work choke the love of God in you. “Study this Book of the Law continually. Meditate on it day and night so you may be sure to obey all that is written in it. Only then will you succeed.” (Josh 1:8 NLT). “Keep on praying.” (1Thes 5:17 NLT) Stay in God and trust Him for your life. “Be careful to obey all the commands I give you; show love to the LORD your God by walking in his ways and clinging to him.” (Deut 11:12 NLT).

In all labour, there is profit. Do not give up.

Happy Holiday!💃
