2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV: All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, [17] so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Undoubtedly, the scripture is all encompassing, having all that you need to live a godly life.
What more then, you’d ask, do you need from spiritual books?
Christian literature from credible authors are like explanatory manuals for the bible. The authors of the bible wrote according to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. In the same way, Christian literature, from credible authors, are written by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
Reading scriptures is primary. Reading books is essential for putting the truth from the scriptures to work. How often do you consider putting into application the things you read from the scriptures, knowledge you get from sermons or exhortations?
Books are written according to different themes. So as a verse of the scripture explains a particular concept, a man inspired by the spirit of God and has learnt from experience, picks up a single verse and expounds it for better understanding into the pages of a book.
Knowledge is not profitable when it is not put to use.
Knowledge is not for the head, it is for the heart. What do you do with the words you hear?
Proverbs 3 vs 12-13 [NIV]: My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart,[13] Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding.
Knowledge that gets into the heart leads to understanding. By understanding, the believer is equipped to walk in wisdom. Now, wisdom is the application of the knowledge gained by understanding.
This is what brings about growth. Mere hearing does no profit. As you grow, you are equipped to teach others. This is how we thrive in the kingdom.
What’s an area of your character or conviction as a disciple of Jesus that you’d like to understand better and grow in?
