As we continue this academic session, it is expected that we commit ourselves to our academics and as well commit it into God’s hand. Jesus in John 14:14 said “If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it”
All grace has been made available to see us through the semester. Paul was saying in Corinthians that “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work” (2nd Corinthians 9:8 ESV)
The essence of life is time; if you are wasting time you are wasting life. The essence of our lives and stay in the land of UI will be dependent on how we are able to maximize God’s grace, His sufficiency unto all good works, good works in academics, good works in the great commission, good works in all aspects and all he has given to us to keep just like he gave the talents to the servants of the house.
God has given you the academic talents and you have the responsibility to produce good works out of it. Life is a gift, time is a gift, your education is a gift, your gadgets are gifts from God, your charisma, your outspokenness, every seemingly good quality you have are gifts from God this now begs the question
What will you do with it?
The answer: Let us do that which is proper for people professing godliness: Good Works.
We take for granted what we have in excess, and we assume there will always be another tomorrow, so we stop, we relax and we live our life largely based on that assumption thinking that the sun will rise the next day and you will be there to witness it substituting that for the opportunity you are about to miss.
James the Apostle of Christ warned on this in James 4:13-14: Go to now, ye that say, today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14. Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away. KJV
Life is a vapour and it vanishes away like it was never there, the opportunity you think you will have may not come back again. There may never be a tomorrow to boot, sometimes today is all the chance there is and will be… nothing more.
You want to start that course, start it now. You want to read the whole semester, do it now. You want to pick up a skill and learn, do it now. Pick up that spiritual book now, go on that spiritual journey now, start that spiritual exercise now don’t put it off to a never coming tomorrow.
Tomorrow might be an illusion you might never have, a smoke you will chase unending. Make best use of the time you have now because the days are evil, merciless, and full of many battles. The days are evil and it is better you are preparing for them.
PREPARING FOR THE ACADEMIC SESSION
- Wait on the Lord for His word: Getting a word from God to work with this academic session is very important because it continually reminds us of his promises and the good plans he has for us. Most importantly, it renews our strength and brings us closer to him.
- Journey with the word: Just like Habakkuk complained and got a word from God the next instruction was to write it down so that those that read the word may run with it. Take the word that has come to you seriously. Run with it, journey with it. As His children, we should understand that for His words to come into fulfilment especially over our lives, we must be obedient to walk in His ways.
- Do not let your faith waver: When challenges come and things are not looking promising, we should not for once doubt Him. His ways are not our ways. His plans are bigger and better than ours.
- Work. Work is glorious, the greatest book in the world started with someone at work, and that birthed all we have today, the moon, the stars, all there is. So the important advice here is get to work, just as a father delights in seeing his children prosper, God delights in seeing us prosper through the works of our hands.
When waiting on the Spirit of the LORD for directions, we can trust that He is always with us, guiding and directing us. He has gone ahead of us and has perfected all that concerns us. His word says ‘come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.’ Let us surrender our fears, anxieties and doubts to Him. As we begin this new academic session, may His guidance be our constant companion.
Amen.
