PEACE OF GOD AND PRAYERS

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Philippians 4:6 (NIV)

Now, having established what verse 7 of Philippians 4 was telling us about the Peace of God passing all understanding and guarding our hearts, we must come to the understanding of the protocols the Apostle gave to enter into this Peace.

Verse 7 actually started with the conjunction, “AND “, showing that it is a second part to a first part, which in this case is verse 6.
In verse 6, the Apostle spoke about what often takes away people’s peace, that is, worries and anxiety and said instead of those, we should rather pray, taking our worries to God. Then the product of doing away with our worries and praying to God is the PEACE of GOD we have been speaking about. We can see then that there’s an actual correlation between praying our worries and the Peace of God.

In 1 Peter 5:7, the other Apostle wrote, “1Peter 5:7  Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

He also admonishes us that instead of worrying, we ought to carry our cares and take it to God. He even said to cast them on Him, and the word cast actually means to “throw at or place upon ” in the root word.

Now, what is the implication of the word cast, it means that we have to actually trust God that he can carry our burdens and He can solve our problems.

A lot of people don’t actually cast their cares on God; what they do is complain and complain. They moan and whine about their problems, but they never ask for a solution. They go like this, “God, my house rent is due…” but they never ask Him to provide. They say, “God, my car is faulty…”, but never ask for a way to get it repaired. All of us say this and that, but never ask God to do something about it. That’s not casting our care upon him, and that kind of prayer will never take away the anxieties in our hearts and replace them with peace. But rather, it multiplies the worries. We leave more confused and more worried as if we had said anything at all.

God is eagerly waiting for us to ask Him to step in and do something, not whine about how it shouldn’t have been us in the situation. This is what it means to cast our care, to pray our worries. It is okay to whine before God, after all, He’s our father, but don’t stop at whining, ASK! (Matt 7:7-8)

Let’s take a look at this story;

‎ One day, A certain man decided to journey on a boat, His followers with him. They were all going to the other side of the city but all of a sudden, a boisterous storm arose wanting to disrupt their journey. Everyone on the boat started to worry because the water from the sea began to fill their vehicle.

But amidst this period of upheaval and confusion, this certain man was sleeping peacefully at the back of the boat–the winds didn’t affect him–but out fear His followers woke him up, there were afraid they’d drown. But this man like the others didn’t tremble but rebuked the wind and declared peace. Little did they know that as long as they have Him in their vehicle they can’t drown.

‎ This is the same man, Jesus, who said to his followers and us, ”My peace I give unto you not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27.
‎ That means your heart has the tendency to be troubled and afraid when troubles arises… but Jesus has given us His peace to guard us but we have to turn to Him, when the storm arises. But not in fear as the disciples did but in faith, assured that the ship would not drown because Jesus is in it.

When Jesus was awoken, He didn’t look at the boat drowning, though it was, at that moment but instead He faced the source of the problem, which is the wind and rebuked it and commanded peace.

Having Jesus in your boat doesn’t mean the winds will not arise but it means the storm won’t sweep you away…even if your boat, is almost full of water.

‎ Child of God, stop looking at what the problem has caused, and declare Peace, knowing that Jesus is in the boat and be rest assured in Him.

Remember, with your gaze fixed on Him, you can never be ashamed! So, set it like a flint, and let Him rule your world!
